Game Report: NYCFHC – Westchester
May 2, 2011 by: PatrickLast Sunday we had the difficult game against NYC on the program. They are number 3 in the league and likely going to the play-offs. This game was really a tale of two halves. Nick wasn’t able to make it to the game unfortunately, but Diederik stepped up and was willing to put on the goalie gear. I thank him for that.
The first half started a bit chaotic and with lots of screaming against our fellow team mates, our opponents and lastly against the referees. After about 15 minutes in the game they got a penalty corner which wasn’t well defended resulting in a 1-0 lead for them. After continuous stick hitting from several of us Chris was yellow-carded for that foul and was subsequently sent off for about 15 minutes. More chaos and shouting resulted in a 2-0 lead before the first half ended unfortunately.
But as mentioned, before it was a tale of two halves. During the break we made the pledge to play simple, mark your guy and accept the referees’ decision and don’t discuss. I must say, this resulted in a completely different game where we actually had the better hand and practically controlled the entire half. Half-way in the second half Dennis scored! We got numerous chances to make it 2-2 but eventually had to capitulate ending the game 2-1.
